Geert Standaert, Chief Technology Officer of Proximus, receives Mobile Europe's Regional CTO of the Year award
On Wednesday 24 May, in London, Geert Standaert, Chief Technology Officer of Proximus, received Mobile Europe's Regional CTO of the Year award.
Last December, Mobile Europe launched the search for Mobile Europe's fourth annual CTO of the Year. Geert Standaert was already nominated last year. This year he has now won the Regional CTO of the Year award. The award recognizes the work a Chief Technology Officer is accomplishing within a single market. It is open to standalone operators trading in a single market, or CTOs within a larger group doing innovative things in their regional market.

The Mobile Europe CTO of the Year award recognizes the central role Chief Technology Officers play. The award celebrates those driving innovation and displaying an agenda-setting vision that places his or her company at the forefront of the telecoms industry. As telcos are gearing up towards 5G, applying the finishing touches to their LTE rollouts and continuing network transformation at the heart of the company, Mobile Europe wants to celebrate “the very best the European telecoms industry has to offer”.
On Wednesday 24 May, at an exclusive CTO roundtable event in London, Geert Standaert was announced as the winner of the Regional CTO of the Year award. He was selected from a shortlist of nominated CTOs by a panel of independent industry experts.

Mobile Europe's CTO of the Year awards, sponsored by Tata Communications, celebrate the most innovative executives in the mobile industry and Proximus' Geert Standaert stands out as one of Europe's best. The judging panel was unanimous in choosing Standaert as the winner of the Regional CTO of the Year award for 2017. He was lauded for being able to handle network changing projects with ease, ensuring Belgians benefit from a high-quality network and paving the way for Proximus to profit from future technologies such as the Internet of Things and 5G. I applaud his achievements and look forward to seeing which projects he has in store next.
It’s a great honor to win this award, especially with such strong competition. These are certainly exciting times for a CTO. With new technologies popping up every day, finding the right balance between technological innovation and customer value has become the key role of any CTO. However, no CTO can fulfill such a task without having a great team to rely on. It’s wonderful to see the value of our work recognized at an international level. I’m very proud of all my teams!
