BIPT Atlas of mobile coverage: Proximus scores better than ever

Proximus continuously invests in the coverage and, even more importantly, the quality of its mobile networks. This is clearly bearing fruit: according to the latest ATLAS of the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT), no operator has better coverage than Proximus.

Proximus isn’t resting on its laurels and keeps on investing in the coverage as well as in the quality of its « most impatient network » with the aim of delivering the best possible customer experience.

Latest edition of the BIPT's Atlas

Today the BIPT published the latest edition of its Atlas on its website, showing the mobile network coverage since the start of January 2016.

The maps are based on data from the mobile operators Base, Mobistar and Proximus for each of the three mobile technologies currently rolled out (2G, 3G and 4G).

In the second half of January, the BIPT checked this data against measurements taken in the field (using drive tests).

Proximus has the widest coverage

The maps show that, in the beginning of January 2016, Proximus had the widest coverage for each mobile technology (2G, 3G and 4G), in terms of both surface area and population.

Customer experience is more than just coverage

The BIPT Atlas currently only provides data on mobile coverage, and not on quality criteria such as download speed. Yet the customer’s user experience is more important than just coverage.

Proximus customers are in the right place: thanks to the 2G/3G coverage, they can easily call anywhere, and if necessary, solutions exist to improve the coverage (as the Mobile Coverage Extender).

Moreover, benefitting as they do from the best possible mobile browsing experience: the average download speed on a 4G-compatible device is higher than with the competition, as shown from measurements taken by external companies.(site Network quality)

In any case, the BIPT will be adding data on the quality of the networks in the future, which is a good thing.

Also important for the browsing experience

Proximus customers can also use approx. 1.3 million Wi-Fi Hotspots in Belgium and over 18 million worldwide – which also forms part of the mobile browsing experience.

Proximus continues to innovate, being the first operator in Belgium, after conducting a pilot project, to roll out 4G+ technology on October 30, 2015, in 20 important cities and on the Belgian coast. Today, all Proximus mobile customers can benefit from the advantages of 4G+ in more than 200 municipalities all over the country. And if they have a 4G+ compatible device, they can download, browse, and stream at record speeds of 225 Mbps. In this way, mobile customers can watch live videos, play games, or share large files with each other in even better quality.

Proximus continuously invests in both the coverage and quality of its networks in order to offer an excellent customer experience.
