Proximus becomes the first Belgian telecom operator to offer Wi-Fi 7 tri-band technology
Proximus is the first telecom operator in Belgium to launch Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band technology, setting a new standard for its Ultra Fiber customers: Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band brings even faster and more stable Internet connectivity. With this innovation, Proximus takes another step forward in reinforcing its product leadership in the Belgian telecom market.
Wi‑Fi 6, Wi‑Fi 6E and Wi‑Fi 7: what is the difference?
The way we connect wirelessly to the Internet is evolving rapidly. Wi‑Fi 6, 6E and 7 belong to the same family, each delivering increased speed, stability and efficiency. Wi‑Fi 6, launched in 2022, is the standard that makes networks smarter, distributing available bandwidth more efficiently across multiple devices.
In addition to offering greater speed and stability than Wi‑Fi 5, it also features improved security through WPA3 Personal.
Wi‑Fi 6E, launched in 2024, builds on Wi‑Fi 6 by adding an extra frequency band, delivering more capacity and reduced interference. This can be compared to a highway with an added lane. While Wi‑Fi 6 uses only the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, Wi‑Fi 6E introduces the 6 GHz band. This provides devices with more space, reduced interference and, consequently, a more stable connection. It is therefore ideal for households where multiple users are streaming, gaming or on video calls simultaneously.
Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band technology takes things a step further. It combines multiple frequencies simultaneously to deliver even faster speeds, lower latency and ultra-smooth connectivity.
The unique benefits of Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band
The new Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band technology takes wireless Internet to the next level. With a bandwidth of 320 MHz, it delivers lightning-fast speeds and is up to twice as fast as Wi‑Fi 6. This means videos, games and video calls start immediately, even when multiple devices are connected at the same time. Thanks to the combination of MLO technology (Multi-Link Operation) and wider bandwidth, users enjoy a smooth, ultra-stable connection with minimal latency, even in congested networks.
At the same time, the network remains optimally protected with WPA3 Personal encryption, which is compatible with both new and older devices. Installation is remarkably easy: the integrated display guides the installer or customer step-by-step, no app or manual required.
The Internet Box + Wi‑Fi 7 combines high performance and sustainability with an overall reduction in carbon footprint of at least 15% compared to the previous generation. Made from recycled materials, it is fully fanless and designed to be reused or refurbished. Additional features, such as an economy mode and support for future upgrades, are planned. In short, this Internet Box + Wi‑Fi 7 offers not only power and ease of use, but also a forward-looking, circular design that is ahead of its time.
Toward a gradual rollout
Following a pilot phase in November, Ultra Fiber customers will be the first to progressively benefit from Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band technology starting in late December 2025. Existing Ultra Fiber customers will be invited in the first months of 2026 to upgrade to the latest-generation Internet Box + Wi‑Fi 7, enabling them to enjoy the enhanced performance of Wi‑Fi 7 tri-band. The rollout to Giga Fiber customers is planned for the second half of 2026.
This step confirms our ongoing commitment to innovation and reinforces our position as a premium brand in the market. Thanks to the expertise and dedication of our teams, we are once again able to deliver a progressive and reliable Internet experience to our customers.
